Peter Giangreco

Pete is currently a partner in The Strategy Group's Chicago office.

Pete has been at the heart of some of the most exciting races in country over the last four years, electing three new Democratic Governors, helping make John Edwards become a household name, and playing a key role in winning the tough primary that launched one of the party's newest stars, U.S. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.

In 2006, Pete created winning mail for the DCCC independent expenditure campaign, winning five out of six top races defeating Curt Weldon (PA-07), Clay Shaw (FL-22), John Hostetler (IN-08) and posting a huge upset win in the TX-22 special election in December over incumbent Henry Bonilla.

Pete helped Amy Klobuchar become the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Minnesota, Rod Blagojevich become the first Democrat since WWII reelected Governor of Illinois, and played a central strategic role in helping Iraq War veteran Patrick Murphy capture the hotly-contested Pennsylvania 8th Congressional District by just 1,500 votes.

In 2004, Pete served as mail consultant and Senior Advisor for Iowa to Edwards for President, helping U.S. Senator John Edwards move from single digits to 32 percent in the final 30 days, the greatest surge in Iowa caucus history. In addition to the primary and general election campaigns for Obama, Pete helped Mike Easley become the first Southern Democratic Governor reelected in the last decade.

Pete also served as mail consultant to Mark Warner's campaign for Governor of Virginia, the first Democrat elected in the Commonwealth in 12 years. This follows Pete's role in helping Mike Easley win tough primary and general election campaigns for Governor of North Carolina in 2000.

The Edwards campaign marked Pete's sixth presidential race. He started in politics as an 18 year-old college freshman who quit school and went on the road for Gary Hart's 1984 bid, serving as field staff in six states. After brief stints with Ohio Governor Dick Celeste's campaign and Hands Across America in 1986, Pete joined the Dukakis campaign in Iowa after graduation in 1987. He served in five states, ultimately becoming the New Jersey State Field Director for Dukakis-Bentsen. Pete ran a Mayoral race in his hometown of Buffalo, NY in 1989, and joined The Strategy Group that Fall.

While at The Strategy Group, Giangreco served as Deputy National Field Director for Clinton-Gore '92 and as lead direct mail consultant to Clinton-Gore '96. Pete produced mail in both the primary and general elections for Al Gore in 2000. Other prominent clients include Chicago Mayor Rich Daley, U.S. Representatives Jan Schakowsky (IL-9), Betty McCollum (MN-4), and Brian Higgins (NY-27), one of only four newly elected Democrats to formerly Republicans seats in 2004.

Pete served as a network liaison for the Democratic National Convention in 1996, working with MTV, Comedy Central, CBC, Univision, BBC and other networks on interviews and story ideas. Pete appears regularly on Beyond the Beltway, a nationally syndicated radio show now heard in over 40 markets, and has been quoted on presidential politics in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and other publications.

Pete received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan in 1987, and has been a guest lecturer at Northwestern University, Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, University of Chicago and Loyola University Chicago. In 1993, Pete was named to Crain's Chicago Business's "40 under Forty" list of up-and-coming leaders in Chicago. Pete lives in Evanston, IL with his wife, Laura Tucker, and their three children.
