A partner in The Strategy Group's Washington D.C. office, Steven combines years of campaign experience with localized direct mail strategies to help Democrats win in both blue AND red states.
In 2004, Steven served as lead direct mail strategist to John Salazar's top-targeted congressional campaign - one of only four Republican House seats to shift into Democratic hands during the cycle.
Steven also helped state legislatures win Democratic majorities in two red states during the 2004 campaign cycle. In Colorado, Steven helped Democrats take control of the State Senate by building tailored direct mail programs for five districts falling below 50 percent Democratic Performance - a program the Denver Post called a "brilliant strategy." Steven also served as a mail consultant to North Carolina House Democrats - winning two Republican open seats and holding four Democratic seats to help reclaim control of the chamber.
Additionally, Steven served as Virginia State Director to John Edward's presidential primary campaign.
Also while at The Strategy Group, Steven served as lead direct mail vendor to Virginia Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine's primary and general election campaigns, numerous mayoral and municipal candidates and legislative caucus programs in Maryland, Virginia, Oklahoma, Minnesota and Missouri.
Before joining The Strategy Group, Steven led opposition research efforts for U.S. Senator Tom Harkin's re-election campaign in 1996.
As Communications Director for the Virginia House Caucus in 1997, Steven coordinated paid and earned media plans to help Democrats retain control of the General Assembly.
Steven received a bachelor's degree in political science from Northwestern University and lives with his wife Emily in Washington D.C.
